It’s no secret that Game of Thrones theories get crazier and crazier every season, with ‘book-fans’ and ‘show-fans’ warring against each other to see who can figure it out first. This year is no different of course, so we’ve put together a list of some of the plausible, implausible and so-crazy-it-may-be-true theories that people are talking about.
Obviously, if you haven’t seen the new GoT trailer yet, you should probably do that first; this post is dark and full of spoilers.
The White Walkers Will Resurrect The Dead Starks
The new trailer definitely shows some kind of major battle happening at Winterfell, with Daenerys and Jon Snow battling it out against the White Walkers. They’ve also been showing the Winterfell crypts a lot, even in the previous teasers, so there may just be something more to this. But are Ned Stark and Robb Stark (RIP) even buried there? Will we finally see Lady Stoneheart perhaps? Is that who Arya is running away from? Curiouser and curiouser.

Bran & The Ice Dragon
Some viewers believe Bran’s ability to warg may come in super useful when dealing with that pesky ice-dragon. We don’t know about you but we hope this may be his time to shine, and hopefully gain some redemption. *cough*Hodor*cough*
A Violent End For Jon Stark & Daenerys Targaryen
This is Game of Thrones, and we know happy endings are always too good to be true, but say it isn’t so! According to one theory, everyone’s favorite incestuous couple may end with one having to kill the other. Long story short, Jon may be Azor Ahai reborn (the show has hinted that it would end up being that way). Legend says the original incarnation of Azor Ahai used Lightbringer, the sword forged in the blood of his lover, to defeat the god of darkness. And, we all know the ‘Prince Who Was Promised’ will most definitely face another darkness. So, if it is Jon, does that mean he’ll kill Daenerys?
PS: Fans also think it was definitely Lightbringer that we see Gendry forging in the trailer.
Aegon Targaryen Arrives
In the trailer, there’s one man who’s still a mystery; you only see his back, standing on a ship. Fans are now theorizing that this could be Aegon Targaryen, Jon Snow’s brother. In the books, Rhaegar’s other son, Aegon is alive and well, and yes, he named both his sons Aegon (that’s Jon Snow’s real name). The other Aegon could also possibly be the Prince Who Was Promised, thus able to turn this entire show on its head.
Cersei Isn’t Pregnant
At the end of Season 7, Cersei tells Tyrion that she’s pregnant, and also, more significantly, turns down a drink. In the new trailer though, she’s definitely enjoying some wine, so some people think the whole ‘I’m pregnant’ thing was all part of some greater scheme. But this is Cersei we’re talking about, a woman never to be second-guessed, and a woman currently sitting on the Iron Throne — we may have to give her greater credit than that, and see how this one unfolds.
