Dry Shampoo: Or Should I Say, Why Shampoo?
No time for a leisurely head wash?If you have even a few lazy cells in your system, you feel me when I whine about shampooing and blow-drying before heading off to some unavoidable social commitment. Especially in winter. There are only so many times you can wiggle out of post work drinks or a loved one’s birthday. Dry shampoo is made for these exact moments but it’s a lot of pressure for just one product, don’t you think? So, here are my two cents in the form of pros and cons after having used multiple brands.
Pros
- You don’t have to take a whole entire shower just to get some grime out. Time saved: one hour.
- If you spray it right and just really get into cafuné mode, you’re likely to get such great volume (I speak only for limp, straight hair).- Depending on the brand you’ve chose, your hair can end up smelling great (Garnier Fructis is on top of my list for fragrance) and this only lends to the whole illusion of you being a freshly showered being.
Cons
- The effects of dry shampoo last for three hours at the most so you really will have to Cinderella your way back home, pumpkin.
- Some dry shampoos spew out white particles into your hair and if you’re in a hurry (why else are you even doing this?), you’re bound to miss brushing these off. If you’re going for the salt and pepper look, win win. Else, maybe just hold up.
- If you use it too much (don’t!), it can cause scalp issues and you may end up with your own Itchy and Scratchy show.
Sooo… should you?
Only in case of emergencies. Let messy buns save the day more often than not.
Stick to brands like Schwarzkopf, Garnier and, of course Batiste and you’re good. You'll get most of these on Amazon or Nykaa.
