It’s true that millenials in Delhi have unlimited choices when it comes to going out but it’s also true that come Saturday night, most of us find ourselves flitting between Summer House, Auro and most recently, Dear Donna. All good choices but don’t you feel like a change of scenery every now and then?
It was in a bored state of mind that I came across a heavily Photoshopped image of a sunset enveloping a chevron-floored terrace in its bright glow. Wanting to see how dramatically different it would be, we headed off to Antidot Water Bar, expecting nothing more (or less) than a dingy hookah bar.
Turns out, it’s opened in place of Ritu Dalmia’s Depot 29, spans three floors and is pretty well decorated - shout out to the pretty chairs that are also comfortable! There are two terraces - the large main one and a smaller one on top furnished with 3-4 tables, which makes for a more intimate setting. Barring the over glorified sunset, it stays true to the photos. The terrace also overlooks a very large cluster of greenery, making you temporarily feel like you’re not living in one of the most polluted cities in the world. It truly is a pretty perfect spot for an evening date.
The menu is exhaustive including things from the tandoor, comfort food like pan fried noodles to more exotic dishes such as Laksa, Nasi Goreng and calamari with wasabi. We settled on the latter and a chicken Mac N Cheese. It’s so easy to go wrong with multi cuisine but Antidot seems to have made some good decisions with the kitchen staff. And the bar too. The cocktail list is impressive too and reasonably priced.
On a Friday evening, we managed to catch some live music too. Note to those who enjoy Hindi music: Go here.
I can’t speak for the indoor part of it but the terrace is literally a breath of fresh air. I’m definitely going back for drinks by the little pool of water alongside the ledge. And taking my date with me.
