Your Doggo Deserves Ice Cream Too!
This is paw-some!If you live in Delhi, for the next few months, your best friends are going to be the air conditioner and a few dozen tubs of ice cream. Why should it be any different for your pupper? Now don’t go giving her/him your sugar-laden Cassattas and Cornettos. It’s maybe semi acceptable to give the good boy or girl a cup of vanilla ice cream on a VERY special occasion but if cold treats are going to be a regular affair in this scorching heat (as they should), you need doggie special ice cream.
Paw Petisserie (loving the pun) does a bunch of both sweet and savoury treats for dogs but it’s their ice cream which caught my attention, as I watched my pupper Beanie do her version of sweating next to me - long tongue hanging out so far it could reach the depths of hell. Ok, I exaggerate but you know what I mean and how can I possibly finish off my mint chocolate chip cone whilst I have puppy eyes keeping a tab on every slurp? Getting back to the point, PP does gluten-free, salt-free and sugar-free ice cream specially for dogs and these are free of any harmful additives. And if you thought vanilla was the only option, be prepared to perk up those ears. There’s peanut butter banana, blueberry banana, strawberry, chicken and sweet potato + chicken. Yes, you read right. Chicken ice cream. Since it is a little on the expensive side (starting at Rs 225 for 150 grams), I was a little apprehensive but with the image of bacon ice cream repeatedly popping into my head, curiosity obviously got the better of me.
These guys are based in Sainik Farms but the 10 km drive to my place didn’t do much to the ice cream - I mean it felt melty but it comes in very well sealed boxes so no dripping woes took place. All it needed was a few moments in the freezer to return to its original glory. The boxes are sealed so well that you might need the help of a sharp knife (or your canine’s canines) to get the lid off.
So, taste test:
Peanut Butter & Banana
Beanie’s verdict: Going by her suspicious sniffing and slow happy lapping, I’d say it gets a solid 7.5. She was happy while it was there but didn’t look particularly heartbroken when it was over. Did lick the bowl clean.
My verdict: This tasted like a healthy smoothie my imaginary fitness trainer would force me to have. I’m not going to rate it because, well, no one cares.
Chicken Ice Cream
Beanie’s verdict: Beanie sniffed this and immediately wanted to swallow it whole. So I scooped out a few spoons and she pretty much inhaled it and even asked for second helpings. So, we’re going to go with a 9 at the very least.
My verdict: If you’re a human, please don’t eat this. Well, don’t eat any dog food. Just go to the closest ice cream parlour.
Apart from ice cream, Paw Petisserie also does full customised cakes, pupcakes and treats such as salami, mutton chips, various kinds of biscuits, jerky and jars of brownies and butter fudge. You can even get your dog's name engraved on the biscuits. The possibilities are endless, just ask.
