Sunday Funday: Farmer’s Market & A Picnic At Sunder Nursery
Sunshine, food & nature. The Earth Collective by Meenu Nageshwaran is an endeavour towards clean eating, keeping the well-being of the planet in mind. They promote fresh farm produce, artisan jams and preserves, solar products, groceries, sustainable homeware and the like. They set up a market every Sunday at Sunder Nursery (next to Humayun's Tomb) in New Delhi.
Good Buys
The market is small and won’t take you more than 15 minutes to do a walkthrough. You’ll feast your eyes on everyday necessities such as juicy lemons, the greenest of green chillies, everyday vegetables like carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, beets, pease, lettuce, ginger and eggplant. Move on and you’ll find fruit, artisanal cheese, kombucha, freshly-squeezed orange juice, jams, chutneys, honey, infused teas and coffee. There are also some brands selling soap.
What’s Cooking?
Amidst all the stalls selling pesticide-free organic goodies to you, there are some stalls preparing fresh lunch. The menu is ever-changing but if you go in the winter season, you can be pretty sure of getting your hands on some adrak chai, gaajar halwa, pakora and litti chokha. Fresh sarson ka saag, makke ki roti and parathas are also on the cards.
On the far end of this area (but not part of this farmer’s market), you can sometimes find local Muslim women selling plates of biryani, chicken fry and kebabs.
Post Lunch Stroll
It’s worth taking a walk through Sunder Nursery Heritage Park. The manicured lawns, restored monuments and water fountains are bound to put you in a serene state of mind. You can also carry your picnic baskets and bask in a sunny spot somewhere here.
The stalls in the market start winding up around 1 pm so it makes sense to head there early (they set up shop at 9 am). The food also gets sold out pretty fast.
For more deets, watch out for their events here.
